Life Cycle Management of Waste
TSMC continuously promotes raw material usage reduction. We have introduced circular economy management methods to independently develop waste recycling technology. TSMC also adopts proactive actions to strengthen vendor auditing effectiveness to ensure legal and proper recycling and treatment of wastes.
In order to sustainably use our resources, TSMC's waste management includes waste reuse, material recycling and energy recovery. We keep increasing the feasibility of waste reuse to realize circular economy.
Key Projects on Waste Reduction
TSMC formed a cross-organization "Waste Management Task Force" to promote raw material source reduction and in-house waste reuse and recycling. We conducted several key projects on waste reduction, encouraged employees to innovate all the time and found ways to improve sustainable performance.
In-house regeneration and reuse W-H2SO4 to reduce W-H2SO4 amount
Water content reduction to reduce W-(NH4)2SO4 amount
Process optimization to cut chemical consumption
Water content reduction to reduce CaF2 sludge amount
VOC carousel rotor cleaning fluid reduction
Copper extraction from W-CuSO4 to reduce W-CuSO4 amount
TSMC adopted proactive waste reduction activities. We invested in waste regeneration equipment, and collaborated with suppliers to optimize processes and improve equipment with monthly tracking of execution progress. The amount of waste outsourced for processing per 8"e wafer-layer has been reduced to 0.35kg from the 0.49kg forecast in 2016.
