The TSMC Education and Culture Foundation established the "TSMC Volunteer Program" in 2004. Under the leadership of Ms. Sophie Chang (Su-feng Chang), the program persists in the objective of "long-term commitment to chosen service themes," and encourages our employees to participate in volunteer activities with joy and wisdom. Through volunteer activities, we hope to lead the way for our employees to strike a fulfilling balance between their work and life.
The TSMC Volunteer Program coordinates many forms of volunteer services. Employees of the Company and our affiliated companies, as well as their family members, are invited to participate in related activities under the Program. There have been six volunteer programs so far, and we make a long-term commitment for the land of Taiwan.
TSMC is devoted to the protection of our environment. We reserve land for ecological projects at every new fab. (Since 2013) There are 17 Fab/Division-level volunteer projects, and they devoted themselves to various welfare activities for causes such as "Environment Protection," and "Caring for the Disadvantaged" to meet TSMC’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy. We put 11,510 volunteer attendees and 61,064 service hours in 2016.
(Since 2012) Our service locations are TSMC’s three major ecology green parks (F12B in Hsinchu, F15 in Taichung, and F14 in Tainan), and the Tainan Jacana Ecology Education Park. We introduce rich environment knowledge and ecological protection to children and adults from rural villages and neighboring areas. We put 765 volunteer attendees and 3,501 service hours in 2016. We try to let the seed of ecology education to keep growing.
(Since 2010) We focus on serving the elderly of the Hsinchu Veterans Home and children of the St. Teresa Children Center, and hold regular activities such as "Glee Club", "Art Workshop", "One-on-One Care" to closely connect the elderly veterans, children and volunteers. We put 868 volunteer attendees and 5,349 service hours in 2016. We also hosted two Holiday Volunteer activities to let the elderly of Veterans Home and children spend a wonderful holiday together.
(Since 2008) We have provided schools or institutions in the Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan areas with professional consulting services. Through inspection and communication, the team helps to develop energy-saving plans for schools or institutions to improve energy efficiency. We put 116 volunteer attendees and 928 service hours in 2016.
(Since 2004) This program has continuously sponsored the "Hope Reading" program of the Commonwealth Publishing Group for 12 years in a row. We read stories in both Chinese and English in the service locations of Hsinchu County, including Lu Fong Elementary School, Jing Ping Elementary School, Chao Tung Elementary School, Fu Hsin Elementary School; in Taichung City: Xi Wei Elementary School, and in Tainan City: Song Lin Elementary School, Guang Jung Elementary School and Shu Lin Elementary School. The program acts as a bridge to the world built for disadvantaged students by books. We put 1,487 volunteer attendees and 9,279 service hours in 20.
TSMC has been using the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung from 2004 and the TSMC Museum of Innovation from 2016 respectively as locations to provide tour services to the public over the weekends. In 2016, there were a total of 1,170 volunteer attendees and 7,605 tour hours.
