TSMC Hosts Tool Energy Saving Workshop to Power Green Innovation

Green innovation is the responsibility of every TSMC employee. Through thorough implementation of energy conservation projects, and cross-organizational energy-saving idea competitions, we encourage colleagues to continue to identify energy saving opportunities from daily operations and put them into action.

In 2018，TSMC initiated “Tool Energy Saving Workshop”. Through competition prizes and recognition, TSMC encourages colleagues to brainstorm for innovative and feasible energy-saving solutions to drive cross-function study and learning as well as improve their ability to solve tool energy saving problems.

Three Main Standards Evaluating Energy Saving Ideas

Each competition proposal is required to consider the highly interlinked power consumption for each step of the production process, and impact of their proposal on process stability. The proposals are then reviewed for "Feasibility", "Energy Savings", and "Innovation" from 16 internal TSMC judges. After the first screening for 9 finalists, followed by a reexamination, the best remaining proposals are the winners.

Nine Winning Projects Save 124GWh Energy Annually

In 2018, there were 371 energy saving cases presented in the workshop. Three “Energy Saving Design Awards”, three “Innovation Awards”, and three “Excellence Awards” were chosen. The combined energy savings from these is estimated to be 124 GWh annually.
