Etron Technology Inc. and TSMC Announce Delivery of World’s Smallest 8 Mega-bit Low Power SRAM

HSIN-CHU, Taiwan, May 11, 2000

Etron Technology Inc. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) (NYSE:TSM) today announced that Etron has developed the world’s smallest 8 Megabit low power SRAM (LP SRAM), based on TSMC’s advanced 0.15-micron process technology. The combination of low power and advanced technology makes this the smallest low power SRAM in the world.

“This 8Mb LP SRAM provides the best combination of low power and low density on the market,” said Dr. Nicky Lu, chairman of Etron Technology. “The chip operates at 1.5- to1.8 volts and still matches the performance of other devices operating at 3 volts. The new device features a die size below 40 mm2, making it highly market-competitive for commercialization and volume production. This chip is mainly used in high-end e-WAP products, which will enable system developers to march into more advanced e-WAP generations.”
