Hsinchu, Taiwan, October 9, 2000– Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (“ TSMC” or “ the Company” ) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that its net sales for September 2000 reached a new record high of NT$16,396 million, representing an approximately 2.0% increase over August 2000. The Company’s sales revenue from January through September 2000 totaled NT$112.406 billion, for the first time breaking the NT$100 billion mark.
Ms. K. C. Chen, TSMC spokesperson, stated that since demand still outpaces supply in the global semiconductor market, the Company continues to aggressively expand its capacity. Meanwhile, the Company’s capacity utilization rate has been full for the past several months. Net sales for September 2000 once again reached a record high of NT$16,396 million, representing a significant increase of 168.4% on a year-over-year basis. The Company’s sales revenue from January through September 2000 totaled NT$112.406 billion, representing a substantial 127.4% increase over the corresponding period of 1999.
Ms. Chen points out that while TSMC’s capacity utilization continues to exceed theoretical ratings, the proportion of 0.18 and 0.15μm wafers in the Company’s production has also been increasing. The Company’s sales revenue is expected to continue to grow.
