TSMC Appoints Chiam Wu Vice President of Worldwide Customer Service

HSIN-CHU, Taiwan, March 20, 2002 – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (TSMC or the “Company”) (NYSE: TSM) today announced the appointment of Ms. Chiam Wu as Vice President of Worldwide Customer Service. Ms. Wu will report to Dr. Kenneth Kin, Senior Vice President of TSMC Worldwide Sales and Marketing.

Prior to joining TSMC, Ms. Wu was Group Vice President of Applied Materials and Vice Chairman of Applied Materials Taiwan (AMT). She was with Applied Materials since 1987. In her 12-year tenure as general manager of Applied Materials Taiwan, she built up the entire team and achieved outstanding performance, reaching annual compound growth rate over 60% for the past 10 years. Ms. Wu lead AMT to provide the Taiwan semiconductor industry with the world-leading support and service, consolidating the championship of Applied Materials in the global semiconductor equipment and service arena. Before she joined Applied Materials, Ms. Wu worked for Advanced Micro Devices and Signetics, where she was responsible for process technology R&D.
