TSMC Appoints a New Vice President of Business Operations

November 10, 2000, Hsin-chu, Taiwan -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (“TSMC” or the "Company") (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM), the industry's leading dedicated foundry, today announced the appointment of Dr. C. S. Hsu as Vice President of Business Operations. Dr. Hsu will be responsible for overall TSMC’s business operations in central planning and customer service support, directly reporting to Dr. Rick Tsai, Worldwide Marketing and Sales Executive Vice President.

Prior to joining TSMC, Dr. Hsu was Vice President, Product Development at Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation where he also served in a variety of executive manufacturing and quality capacities. Dr. Hsu also held R&D and management positions at Mostek Corporation, Silicon Systems Incorporated, Samsung Semiconductor Incorporated, Hualon Microelectronics Corporation and Winbond Electronics Corporation.

Dr. Hsu graduated from Tunghai University in Taiwan with a Bachelor of Physics degree and received his master’s degree and Ph.D. in Physics from University of Massachusetts and Columbia University respectively.
