Hsinchu, Taiwan, June 9, 2000– Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (“ TSMC” or “ the Company” ) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that its net sales for May 2000 to be NT$10,934 million, breaking the NT$ 10 billion monthly mark for the first time.
Ms. KC Chen, TSMC Spokesperson, stated that due to the strong demand for foundry services, customer orders have stayed at a high level. As a result, the Company's production capacity was again over fully utilized in May. After completing the annual maintenance in April, the Company resumed its aggressive production capacity ramp. The shipment in May hence increased more than 20% compared to that of April. The continuous shipment increase pushed the May sales over the NT$ 10 billion mark, representing a 23.4% revenue growth over April, and once again established a new record. The Company's capacity utilization rate is expected to remain above 110% in the future.
The NT$10,934 million revenue in May represented a remarkable increase of 94.6% on a year-over-year basis. Furthermore, the Company’s cumulative revenue from January through May totaled NT$48,075 million, also achieving a sharp 105.8% increase over the same period in 1999.
