Hsinchu, Taiwan, April 9, 2001– Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (“ TSMC” or “ the Company” ) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM), today announced that net sales for March 2001 totaled NT$11,750 million, representing an increase of approximately 1.2% over February 2001 sales. The Company’s sales revenue from January through March 2001 totaled NT$39,521 million, indicating a 26.6% decrease from those for the fourth quarter of 2000. On a year-over-year comparison, the Company’s net sales for March 2001 grew 18.3%, while total net sales from January through March 2001 increased 39.8%.
Ms. K. C. Chen, TSMC spokesperson, stated that in spite of market downturn, TSMC continues its efforts to provide customers with more advanced technologies and new services, which is expected to increase our customers’ competitiveness in their respective market segments. For example, in March 2001, several customers have utilized TSMC’s 0.13μm all-layer copper process to achieve production worthy yields. In addition, TSMC has achieved remarkable results in several other new technologies, to be unveiled in TSMC’s annual technology symposium, which will be held in the United States in late April and in Taiwan and Japan in May 2001.
