Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 9, 2000– Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (“ TSMC” or “ the Company”) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that its net sales for July 2000 reached NT$15,019 million, representing an approximately 13.7% increase over June 2000. Net income for July 2000 set another monthly record.
Ms. KC Chen, TSMC spokesperson, stated that due to the continuing growth of the global semiconductor market, the Company’s production capacity was fully utilized in July 2000. Sales for July 2000 reached NT$15,019 million, registering a significant 128% growth over July 1999. The increased revenue is attributed to an increase in wafer shipments, strong customer migration to advanced 0.18 and 0.15 micron process technology, and previously initiated price adjustments. In addition, the Company began the consolidation of Fab 7's (originally TASMC) revenue starting in July of 2000. The Company's sales revenues from January through July 2000 totaled NT$79,934 million, representing a substantial 120.1% increase over the corresponding period of 1999.
