November 2, 1999, Hsin-chu, Taiwan - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC or the "Company") (NYSE: TSM) announced today that after the Company and its employees donated NT$ 200 million to the earthquake victims, TSMC Education and Culture Foundation (the "Foundation") will exclusively sponsor the Jose Carreras 1999 Taipei Concert. With such a move, TSMC signified its intention to continually pour resources to assist in the task of psychological recovering after the earthquake through sponsoring arts performances and cultural activities.
The Jose Carreras 1999 Taipei Concert will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, 30th November 1999 at the National Concert Hall in Taipei. The concert is exclusively sponsored by TSMC Education and Culture Foundation, and organized by the United Daily News Group, TVBS TV station and the Management of New Arts. It is hoped that Carreras' voice from his soul can bring comfort and strength to the residents in Taiwan, and therefore help us regain our vitality and confidence to face the future. Meanwhile, the Foundation will contribute another NT$ 2 million, a move aimed at urging the concert attendees to join the call for charity to benefit the school children in the quake-stricken areas with resources of books in the near future. In addition, Mr. Carreras agrees to provide his autographed CDs and posters for charities. The proceeds will also be used for providing book resources for the school children in the quake-stricken areas.
