TSMC Appoints Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Sales

Science-Based Industrial Park, Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, July 2, 2001 — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (TSMC or the “Company”) (NYSE: TSM) today announced Dr. Kenneth Kin as its Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Sales. This appointment will become effective after the meeting of TSMC Board of Directors in August, 2001.

TSMC President Dr. F.C. Tseng stated, “We are very happy to have Dr. Kin, who left a top executive position of IBM, join TSMC’s management team. With Dr. Kin’s rich experience from global companies that excel in technology and customer service, as well as maintaining strong customer relationships, I believe that he will make significant contribution to TSMC’s worldwide marketing and sales in providing customers with yet better services.”

Prior to joining TSMC, Dr. Kin had been with IBM since 1996. He was Vice President for Worldwide Sales & Services of IBM Microelectronics, as well as Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Communications and Consumer Segment of IBM Technology Group. Prior to that, Dr. Kin was in charge of IBM microelectronics business of Asia Pacific and Japan. From 1994 to 1996, he worked for Motorola Microsystems Division as Vice President and Director of Operations for Asia Pacific and Japan. In earlier years, he had worked for Convex Computer and Control Data.
