Science-Based Industrial Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, September 25, 2000 -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (“ TSMC” or “ the Company” ) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that effective from today, Dr. Rick Tsai, formerly executive vice president of TSMC Operations has been named executive vice president of TSMC Worldwide Marketing and Sales. By taking the position, Dr. Tsai replaced Mr. Ron Norris, former senior vice president of TSMC Worldwide Marketing and Sales, and will report to Dr. FC Tseng directly.
The Company’s Director Mr. MC Tzeng and Vice Presidents Dr. CC Wei, Dr. JB Chen, and Dr. Mark Liu will continue to take responsibilities of TSMC Operations and will all report directly to TSMC President Dr. FC Tseng.
Ms KC Chen, TSMC Spokesperson, noted that TSMC made the above reassignment due to Mr. Ron Norris's health condition, for which Mr. Norris requested to return to the US to receive an extended medical treatment under the supervision of the doctor he is familiar with. The Company has already assigned Mr. Norris to take charge in TSMC's soon-to-be established venture capital fund and Mr. Norris will continue to contribute to TSMC in other aspects also. During the following months, Mr. Norris will work closely with Dr. Tsai to assure a smooth transition of related responsibilities in worldwide sales and marketing.
Ms. Chen further detailed the responsibilities of the management team of TSMC Operations as follow: Mr. MC Tzeng will be in charge of Fab 1, Fab 2, and Fab5; Dr. CC Wei will hold responsibility for TSMC Fab 3 and Fab 4; Dr. JB Chen will take responsibility for Fab 6, Fab 7A/7B, 300mm Project, and Fab 14; Dr. Mark Liu will be in charge of TSMC Fab 8A/8B and Fab 12.
