Hsinchu, Taiwan, May 5, 2000– Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (“ TSMC” or “ the Company” ) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that its net sales for April 2000 to be NT$8,863 million, with year to year growth of 69.2%.
Ms. KC Chen, TSMC Spokesperson, stated that the demand for foundry services remains very strong. The Company, however, ceased production for four days in order to perform regular annual maintenance as planned, thus April sales were less than that of March, 2000. With the continuous capacity increase and completion of fab maintenance, the Company expects its second quarter sales is likely to exceed that of first quarter.
Sales for April 2000 registered a significant increase of 69.2% on a year-over-year basis. The Company's sales from January through April 2000 totaled NT$37,141 million, representing a 109.4% increase over the corresponding period of 1999.
