TSMC-Online 2.0 Personalizes Foundry InformationState-of-the-Art System Accelerates TSMC’s eFoundry? Initiative

Science-Based Industrial Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 24, 2000 -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) (NYSE:TSM), the world’s leading semiconductor foundry, today introduced TSMC-Online 2.0, the first personalized, Internet-based information service for foundry customers. As a new feature for conducting business transactions, TSMC-Online 2.0 features a One-Stop Tape-Out Service enabling customers to shorten the time to actual production and provide up-to-date process status control for customers.

Like a personalized web browser, the new software lets users conduct foundry business transactions ranging from technology selection to post-sales services, including customized report gathering.

“TSMC is the first foundry to provide a customized web information service for IC designers,” said Dr. Quincy Lin, senior vice president and chief information officer for TSMC. “TSMC-Online 2.0 contains dynamic content that spans the range of foundry services, from library and IP availability to mask preparation, order status and yield analysis.”

TSMC-Online 2.0, which has been recast on a new search engine, gives designers and other users the ability to customize their access to technology, services, business history, international calendars, and foundry service manuals. In addition, users can now access a variety of technical reports, including design rules, mask data, yield analyses, quality reports and production information, online rather than via hard copy. The site also includes links to DesignSphere Access from Synopsys, Avanti and TSMC; TSMC 9000?, the industry standard for library product quality, reliability and completeness; and Internet Layout Viewer, TSMC’s Internet-based layout engineering and collaboration tool. In addition, the password-protected environment features a Design Portal that allows users to link to third-party IP sites for information on specific IP offerings.

Production information includes visibility into all of the IC manufacturing steps, including order placement, product status, mask status, wafer acceptance test reports, customized SPC (Statistic Process Control) data, shipping information as well as a new capability of management summary reporting.

TSMC-Online 2.0 also features an e-mail in-box providing automatic updates (a feature which can be turned off by the user) and the ability to communicate directly with TSMC support personnel. An enhanced search capability allows users to quickly move to exactly the information they need.

“The key to this new system is that users at any level of the customer’s organization can personalize and organize the look and feel of the software to fit his or her particular need,” said Dr. Lin . “It’s a simple but powerful capability that will greatly increase productivity in terms of information gathering and report generation.”

TSMC-Online 2.0 is replicated via secure servers in the U.S. for additional responsiveness to North American designers.
