Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. – Oct. 16, 2017 – TSMC today announced that it will purchase another 100 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power, and also plans to directly purchase renwable energy, continuing the Company’s support for global carbon reduction. As green power does not create carbon emissions in the generation process, this 100 million kWh can reduce approximately 52.9 million tons of carbon emissions, equivalent to the amount absorbed by 5.29 million trees in one year.
“Strengthening environmental protection is a guiding principle of TSMC’s environmental policy,” said TSMC Spokesperson and Senior Vice President Ms. Lora Ho. “As part of our continuing commitment to carbon reduction, water conservation, and other environmentally friendly actions, we have purchased green energy once again this year to mitigate climate change and its impact on our world. We also pledge that once the regulatory and market environment is mature, we will directly purchase renewable energy in pro-active support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.”
TSMC has always viewed its responsbilities as a global citizen as an important part of its Corporate Social Reponsibility, and continues to drive projects in environmental sustainability. Since 2015, TSMC has purchased 400 million kWh of Green Power.
