TSMC Appoints New Quality & Reliability Vice President

October 8, 1999, Hsin-chu, Taiwan - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (“TSMC” or the "Company") (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM), the industry's leading dedicated foundry, today announced the appointment of Dr. John Yue as Vice President of Quality & Reliability. He will report directly to Dr. F. C. Tseng, President of TSMC.

Prior to joining TSMC, Dr. John Yue has served with AMD for 17 years and was honored as AMD Fellow three years ago. During his tenure at AMD, Dr. Yue held several management positions including Director of Reliability & Quality Technology, Department Managers of Technology Reliability Development and SRAM Reliability, Quality & Packaging Development. Prior to his work at AMD, Dr. Yue held semiconductor R&D and process engineering positions at National Semiconductor and Texas Instrument Incorporated.
