TSMC Announces Comprehensive Library Support for New 0.18-micron Process TechnologyStrategic Partners Offer Core Cells, Memory Compilers and I/O Cells for First Commercially Available 0.18-micron Process

HSIN-CHU, Taiwan, May 17, 1999- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ("TSMC")(NYSE:TSM) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE: TSM), the world's largest dedicated foundry, today announced the availability of a full complement of library support for its 0.18-micron CMOS process technology. Through third parties, TSMC customers have access to a complete line of libraries including core cells, memory compilers and I/O cells.

"TSMC has consistently partnered with industry-leading providers to offer a comprehensive set of libraries to our customers," said F.C. Tseng, president of TSMC. "Time-to-market is an obvious critical issue. We attempt to alleviate some of the pressure by facilitating a range of library options. This is especially true for leading-edge technology like 0.18 micron, where customers are dealing with a new set of design issues."

Current TSMC partners offering 0.18-micron libraries include Artisan Components, Avant!, Nurlogic, Synopsys, Virage Logic and Virtual Silicon. First test chips have been completed in most cases.
