Monthly Sales Report - October 1999

Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, December 9, 1999 - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. ("TSMC" or "the Company" ) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that its net sales for November 1999 were NT$7,859 million, a new record breaking the prior highest.

Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, November 9, 1999 - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. ("TSMC" or "the Company" ) (TAIEX: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that its net sales for October 1999 were NT$7,212 million, a new record breaking the prior highest.

Mr. YC Huang, TSMC Spokesman, pointed out that the IC industry has seen a continued growth in demand for the past half year. Despite the negative impact of the earthquake on September 21st, the Company's wafer shipment for October 1999 reached a new record high at 169 thousand 8-inch equivalent wafers, and the Company's sales for October 1999 also grew to a new record. It was mainly due to the faster-than-expected recovery and the capacity expansion.

Sales for October 1999 of the Company registered a 18.0% increase over September 1999 and a very substantial increase of 71.1% on a year-over-year basis. The Company's sales revenues from January through October 1999 totaled NT$56,652million, representing a 32.3% increase over the corresponding period in 1998.
